WOCS Panel Deployment System
Design, manufacture and installation of WOCS Panel Deployment System
The Challenge:
As part of a side-tracking campaign on an existing well, our client required to run a Work Over Control System (WOCS) Panel, to allow the rig to gain control of the subsea XT. The WOCS panel was a new design, not previously run from the rig, contracted for the campaign. Astrimar were contracted to develop a method of running the panel on guidelines from the forward moonpool hatches, utilising existing subsea winches located near the main moonpool.
What We Did:
Based on 3D laser scan data, Astrimar created a 3D CAD model of the moonpool area, to identify suitable winch cable routing and sheave locations. Due to the rig's compact and congested nature, suitable hang-off points were not available. We developed a modular deployment frame, clamped onto existing skid rails above the forward moonpool hatches to provide suitable hang-offs for the WOCS panel messenger line, guidelines, and umbilical sheave. For ease of deployment, a personnel platform was added to the frame, along with a rotating support arm for the WOCS panel to be rigged up and tested prior to swinging into place over the hatches for deployment. Crane-rail mounted sheave clamps were designed to allow suitable winch cable routing to the deployment frame. Following successful manufacture and testing in partnership with Hydrus Group, the Deployment System, installed on the rig in February 2025, has been successfully used to deploy and recover the WOCS panel.
